I recently purchased a home, the living rooms ceiling has Surround Sound Speakers and the wall has the outlet?
what do I do next? do I just need a receiver? How to test to make sure they work, other then getting a receiver?
For each of the speakers there should be a pair of wires. Your test will also identify these speakers, label them with tape as you do this. The fronts label FL and FR, the surrounds SL, SR the Center speaker CNT. Depending on how Your Home was wired can determine the wire pairs. Typically Right speakers are Black (-)and Red(+)wires and Left are Green (-) and White(+), they may be all black and red. One Pair at a time, get a known good AA or AAA place the black or green wire and hold it with your fingers to the bottom of the battery, get the other wire of the pair red or white and tap it to the top of the same battery, on and off quickly a couple of times. The speakers connected to this wire should make a clicking noise allowing you to identify it. It's easier if two people do this to have one just listen. The small voltage won't harm your speakers. Then purchase a Surround Sound System.
